Good. Not everyone here seems to understand what they are coming on board for.

I would hate to think you wanted this without being told the truth.

No, it would have been...quite the problem if I had come in blind.

But I might have anyway. It was this or death. We're both over the barrel.

[He considers that, quiet and slight.]

So your relationship now with your warden?

Better now. We're more or less friends.

Why?

[Iago just laughs gently.]

That is the discussion you came down here to have, isn't it? Your relationship with your warden and how complicated it is.

Or was that just an excuse to invite yourself to my cabin?

I mean, I don't need an excuse to come over, signore.

[She smiles up at him, and offers a small shrug.]

It's complicated because...we're very similar in character. Not the same, but we are...much of the same mold. So it's difficult to pull stunts I could use on other wardens.

[He gestures at the chair by his table and takes out a bottle of wine for them to share.]

What...stunts?

[She made an amused noise and made to sit at the table with him. She moved to cross her leg over her knee.]

Oh, all sorts of things. Distractions in the form of arguments, making them look in a different direction, play least in sight, that sort of thing.

[She offered a gentle shrug.]

Though to be fair, I just seduced my first warden. It was easy. Little flirting, little banter, and he was in the palm of my hand.

[He puts a hand on the back of the chair as he pours her glass and then his own before he sits.]

Seduced him? Who was it?

[She smiled, watching him and waiting for him to sit before picking up her glass.]

Red of hair, suspect as fiery of temper, smells of cigarette smoke. I suspect he did not start out as a warden...or if he is, he's a fairly relaxed one.

[He picks up his glass and tilts it towards her in a silent toast.]

Did it win you favors?

You praise me too well.

[But she still moved to offer a silent toast back, smiling.]

He left me be, which was what I wanted. And...I will see if I can continue to use him when it suits me.

You never know when a bed warmer can be useful.

[Which considering right now...it was funny.]

[He's clearly thinking the same thing and covers a grin with a sip of his wine.]

I suppose not. Do you have many of those?

I've found it useful in many ways, myself.

Oh yes, like your mystery lover.

[She smiled, and sipped her wine. Seemed they both knew what was up.]

I have a few here and there. For now, they're mostly for fun. And possible use, later. You?

[He laughs.]

He kissed me at the party. If you did not see, I would think you were deliberately ignoring.

[She laughed quietly.]

We did start this meeting talking of your warden, my dear.

[He's playing now, not even bothering to hide his good cheer.]

No, darling, we started by talking about your warden.

[She was smiling, even as she sipped her wine.]

But we were talking about the lovely you kissed at the New Year's party.

[It's low effort and not at all a serious attempt to get past her, but he does enjoy the game, even if it's silly.]

[She offered him a look, and stuck out her tongue. Not much- more of a blep- but he's being silly. She'll be silly too.]

[He laughs, drinking deeply, and sits back.]

He calls himself the Cat King, but that is no proper name for him in his human form.

And I suppose re gatto wouldn't suit him as a name, per see.

[She took a sip of wine.]

I think I saw him on the network once- something about protecting the cats on the Barge?

[Well...if Iago was cool with being lovers with a magical cat, who was she to quibble about it?]

Yes, but I always doubted what that meant. People here take extraordinary care of all their pets.

I think he's used to humans being less than kind to animals around them.

But people here love their pets. It's normalcy, as well as a kind of therapy.

[Now there's a word he desperately needs to know but has no way of understanding. He's still going to ask.]
