He puts the book aside and sits forward. "I'm reading the Crucible now. We didn't have the option of simply leisurely reading, unless it was the Bible, at home. I am enjoying the chance to go through the various texts."
"That's right," he tells her with a gentle smile. "I've finished an adventure book - Journey to the Center of the Earth, that I found quite interesting."
"Yeah- we don't have anything like that at home. But- I'll have to put that on my list to read. The Journey to the Center of the Earth I mean." She offered a smile.
He puts a hand to his chest. "Oh no. I'm just a soldier from the distant past. Are you familiar with Trevor Belmont? We're only a century or so apart, though he deals more with the supernatural than I do. Ghosts and...and strange creatures and such."
"He most...certainly is." She sighed, tucking a hair behind her ear. "I'm surprised. I'd have thought you would have drunk with him. Did he need help leaving, in the end?"
He might have fallen asleep or just passed out. Because, well...Trevor.
"One of us needed to stay clearheaded. He told me he would be walking back upstairs, so I assume he made it somewhere else. He wasn't intending on staying in the speakeasy."
"I'm not certain what you're talking about now," he says with a hesitant smile. "I knew Trevor was having a hard time, so I joined him for a drink. We talked about monsters and the nature of the Admiral. He said he was fine, I needed to leave, so I made sure he had a plan. I didn't think he'd appreciate me treating him like a child."
"You said a couple of things. One, where you didn't drink as much because it'd loosen your tongue." She tilted her head, watching him. "But it sounded as if...you wanted to keep him company in case he got in trouble."
She smiled at him. "I guess I'm not hearing things right, huh."
"You're very welcome. These are chocolate chip. And Anduin makes a variant of them- he works in the chapel. We've been trying to think of sweets to make for people who come by. I'm sure he'd love some suggestions."

"Plus, I wanted to meet you in person. What can I say? I was excited!"
Her laugh was light and bright, clearly at ease.

She sat down, tucking her skirt under her as she did. "So, what have you been reading? I haven't done much reading myself."

She beamed at him. "Are you enjoying the Crucible? Anything else you really enjoyed reading?"
