The accusation visibly stuns Vash, and he blinks in surprise as Iago drops his sword. He missed something here, and he doesn't have any idea what it was.
"So the retribution ends with you? You get to take her life and cause her a week of suffering, and now it's over? You couldn't have decided it was over before you murdered somebody?!"
"No. I cannot tell you because that might serve as using her death to manipulate the story to my own devices, which I am forbidden from doing. So do what you are here to do because you will not find answers from me."
Why can't anyone on this damn ship every give a straight answer?!
"Well if I'm not sure your hand wasn't forced then I'm sure not going to pummel you for it!" Vash retorts, all of that anger giving way to pure frustration. Instead of punching Iago he slams his fist into the door frame. It doesn't do much for his mood.
"I was never leaving here anyway," Vash replies bitterly, turning to leave. He changes his mind after just a step, though, spinning back around to get right in Iago's face.
"You can't kill people! I don't care how mad you are!"
This isn't his job, and Iago isn't his responsibility, but he can't just sit back and let these things happen! He can't! He doesn't know Katie, doesn't have any idea what Mikodez said to Iago to get him to clam up like this -- assuming it was Iago's warden, and not somebody else here that Iago's beholden to -- and honestly? He doesn't care about any of that. Just don't kill people -- how hard is that for everyone to manage?!
